FAQs

What level should I export my mixes at before mastering?

A general rule of thumb is to have peak levels hit around -6dbFS on the meters in your DAW. This in order to end up with the best possible resolution in your 24bit file before the mastering process. Most important is that you are not going above 0dbFS which will generate unwanted distortion in most cases.

Should I remove my mixbus processing before mastering?

Processing on the mixbus is just as much a part of the mix as anything else. Do what you feel is needed to reach the musical result that you're after. The only thing we ask is that you remove peak limiting at the end of your chain and lower the level of the output so that your peaks are hitting around -6dbFS.

What sample rate and bit depth should I use?

Always export your mix at the sample rate you've been working/recording at, and always at 24bit.

What will I get back from you?

You will receive a professionally mastered track as a WAV-file at 16bit and 24bit 44.1k optimised for online distribution.

What is the difference between online distribution and other types of distribution like physical CDs or Vinyl?

Online distribution means that your mastered file will most likely be encoded with lossy codecs on streaming services and download sites. Great care needs to be taken in order to make sure a high quality is preserved through the encoding process, and this optimisation is different to when preparing a master for physical distribution.

Can I upload an EP or Album for mastering?

No, this service is only intended for single tracks. For more complex projects please head over to www.thepanicroomstudio.com and book a mastering session.
